From the point of view of gender morphology, eunuchs can be classified into third sex that did not belong to men and women. In ancient Iran, from the kingdom of the Medes to the Sassanid era, there is evidence of the presence of nobility in the court of kings and within the aristocracy. However, the Achaemenid era is special in terms of the presence and functions of the eunuchs. The authors of this article, by using historiography of the lower classes analyze the role and function of this group in the Achaemenid state.  The study shows that the eunuchs (Khawajas), as a class, had special roles in the court of the Shah during the Achaemenid era, various roles including guardian of the castles and the shrines, serving the royal family, and were in charge of organizing military and administrative affairs. These Khawaja’s were involved in political disputes, groupings, and conflicts, and some influenced the general political life of the Achaemenid state. خواجگان پسران اخته‌شده‌ای بودند که از روزگاران کهن با گسترش ساختار دربار و تعدد زوجات، در اندرونی و حرم‌سرای دربار شاهان و اشراف حضور داشتند. از منظر پیکرشناسی جنسیتی، خواجگان را می‌توان در جنسیت سومی طبقه‌بندی کرد که در جنس زنان و مردان قرار نمی‌گرفتند. در ایران باستان از پادشاهی مادها تا دوران ساسانی، شواهدی از حضور خواجگان در دربار شاهان و اندرونی اشراف وجود دارد. با این حال، عصر هخامنشی از منظر حضور و کارکردهای خواجگان ویژه است. نگارندگان این مقاله با رویکرد تاریخ‌نگاری فرودستان، بر آن بوده‌اند تا با روش تحلیل تاریخی نقش و کارکرد خواجگان در دولت هخامنشی را مورد واکاوی قرار دهند. یافته‌های پژوهش نشان‌ می‌دهد که خواجگان به‌ عنوان یک قشر، در جامعۀ ایران عصر هخامنشی حضور داشتند. خواجگان خاصه در دربار شاه و شاهزادگان ایران عصر هخامنشی، نقش‌های متعددی چون نگهبان شاه و حرم‌سرا، خادمان خاندان شاهی، مدیر حرم‌سرا، ساماندهی برخی امور نظامی و اداری را برعهده داشتند. تعدادی از خواجگان درگیر اختلافات و گروه‌بندی‌ها و کشمکش‌های سیاسی شدند و برخی نیز بر روند کلی حیات سیاسی دولت هخامنشی تأثیرگذار بودند. https://www.chistorys.ir/article_203571_e1e5fb3041b1f40d5c421688e45f01c6.pdf
