Although they may gradually distance themselves from their original etymologies and reasons for naming, transmitting merely as lexical shells or suspended letters, just like signs they retain the capacity for contextual decoding. The naming of the date palm as ‘Mokh’ in Bafgh is one such cultural sign, and analyzing the rationale behind this nomenclature is the primary objective of the present study. The research question is formulated as follows: Based on written historical sources, what hypotheses underlie the naming of the date palm as "Mogh," and based on what basis can the discussion be concluded? It appears that the reasons for naming it ‘Mokh’ may relate to factors such as its utility and generosity. Additionally, changing the final letter of the word (i.e., ‘gh’) to "kh," transforming it into ‘Mokh,’ may refer to the palm's head (terminal bud) and its importance. The present study is a type of qualitative research. In terms of purpose, it is fundamental, and in terms of methodology, it is theoretical-fundamental. However, based on its nature and method, it is considered historical research, concerned with analyzing the etymology of naming the date palm ‘Mokh’ in Bafgh. With this aim, an attempt was made to base the study on reliable written sources. Furthermore, the research approach combines descriptive-analytical and historical methods, as it examines a specific word within the linguistic context and traditions of Bafgh. Data collection in the historical dimension was library-based, while the descriptive aspect utilized observation and field interviews. The research finding indicates that, among various hypotheses such as high utility and benefit, generosity, munificence, and "Mokh" or ‘Mokh’ meaning 'brain,' these factors point to the reason for naming the date palm frond in Bafgh as ‘Mokh.’ This also supports the claim that, in a way, it has been interpreted in connection with human attributes and characteristics like generosity and possessing a brain (intellect). در مطالعات فرهنگی واژگان بومی در گویش‌های محلی از اهمیت زیادی برخوردارند؛ زیرا واژگان طی سده‌ها در بستر زبانی تکرار شده‌اند؛ اگرچه به‌تدریج از مبادی و علل تسمیه فاصله گرفته و تنها شکل و قالب لغت به‌مثابه حروفی معلق منتقل‌ شده باشد؛ اما بازهم به‌مانند نشانه‌ای قابلیت رمزگشایی بافتاری دارد. نام‌گذاری نخل به «مُغ» در بافق از آن نشانه‌های فرهنگی است که تحلیل چرایی تسمیة نخل به مغ هدف اصلی این پژوهش است. پرسش این‌گونه طرح می‌شود که مبتنی بر منابع مکتوب تاریخی، تسمیة نخل به «مغ» بر چه فرضیاتی استوار بوده و بر مبنای کدام انگاره می‌توان بحث را جمع‌بندی کرد؟ به نظر می‌رسد علت نام‌گذاری مغ بر عواملی چون سودمندی، دهش و در صورت تغییر حرف آخر واژه به «خ» و تبدیل به «مخ» به سر نخل و اهمیت آن دلالت دارد. پژوهش حاضر از انواع تحقیقات کیفی است که بر اساس هدف، در دستۀ بنیادی و بر اساس روش مطالعه، بنیادی نظری است؛ اما بر اساس ماهیت و روش از پژوهش‌های تاریخی به شمار می‌آید که دغدغۀ تحلیل تسمیۀ نخل به «مُغ» در بافق را دارد. با این هدف سعی شده است منابع مکتوب معتبر مبنای مطالعه قرار گیرند. از سویی دیگر رویکرد پژوهش ترکیبی از توصیفی تحلیلی و تاریخی است؛ زیرا به مطالعۀ واژه‌ای خاص در بستر زبانی بافق و آداب و سنن آن‌ها پرداخته است. شیوۀ گردآوری اطلاعات در بخش تاریخی کتابخانه‌ای بوده و در قسمت توصیفی از مشاهده و مصاحبه‌های میدانی بهره جسته است. دستاورد پژوهش آنکه از میان فرضیات گوناگون نظیر پرفایده‌بودن و سودرسانی، بخشندگی، سخاوت و دهش و مخ یا مغ به معنی مغز بر چرایی تسمیة برگ نخل در بافق به «مُغ» دلالت دارد و در ضمن مؤید این ادعاست که به نحوی در ارتباط با صفات و ویژگی‌های انسانی مانند سخاوتمندی و دارابودن مغز معنا شده است.
