Abstract
The constitutional revolution and awareness raising in Iranian society focused attention on the knowledge of history to raise awareness. Contrary to the common practice of Iranian historiography, which was mostly in the service of government and political power, and wrote about political events and armies, the new historians wrote for the “people” and wanted the awakening and awareness of the Iranian nation; similar to the revolution, which was supported by history and the identity that was realized by combining texts and historical events, in the field of journalism with newspapers such as Musavat, managed by Mohammad Reza Musavat Shirazi, who was a staunch opponent of tyranny and colonialism, inspired by the knowledge of history and new historiography and with narration and analysis of historical stories of Iran and the world emphasized the full realization of the constitution and the fight against tyranny. This article, based on the contents and articles of “Musavat Newspaper” and other sources, with the method of content analysis, tries to explain the dominant historical discourse of this newspaper in one of the most crucial periods of Iran's history (constitutional era) in confronting tyranny. This article is trying to find the answer to the question, how did the Musavat newspaper use the knowledge of history in the fight against tyranny, and what was the position and role of historical awareness in this way? The findings indicate that this newspaper, by presenting historical anecdotes from the history of Iran and the world and detailed analysis, emphasized the use of historical knowledge and awareness as one of the inevitable requirements for the realization of constitutionalism in order to prevent the return of tyranny and colonialism. And in this way, it undertook a great mission. Learning lessons from history by taking lessons from the important personalities and events of Iran and the world of that day, paying attention to the historical conflict between justice and injustice and the victory of justice, Iran's historical role in overcoming crises and finally using science and knowledge, which is an important step in the fight against the spread of tyranny and colonialism, was one of the focal issues of Musavat in the stabilization of the constitution and curbing tyranny.
